Sooo, How’d You Get The Name “Blak Rhyno” … Funny Story
Funny story with the name of Blak Rhyno.
If you ever started a business, or maybe wrote a song or a blog, then you understand how difficult it is to name a product. I didn’t want to have writers block about the whole thing, so because I’m a vegetarian, I thought, I can name my company after a strong vegetarian animal. ” I knew that one day I eventually would want to introduce a plant based lifestyle to the commercial driving industry.
Google search results showed that elephants, gorillas, and rhinoceros were strong animals that thrived off of a vegan diet.
So, in my head, I started trying out different domain names.
With my audience in mind, I knew that these names were waaaaay too long to remember. I wanted something catchy. Plus, imagine a trucker spelling out elephantsandrhinos. Yeesh.
Then, I singled out rhinoceros because it’s the only vegan animal that’s strong with a short name. Rhino. Plus, it’s looks awesome.
After researching rhinos, I realized that the Western Black Rhinoceros (a subspecies of the Black Rhinoceros) was declared extinct by the IUCN in 2011. The Eastern, The SouthCentral, and the Southwestern Black Rhinoceros are the remaining subspecies.
Knowing this inspired me to name my business Black Rhino!
But there was one problem. There were other entities with a similar name. From propane companies, to construction, and even a rim and tire store. But I didn’t want to get hung up on the word and waste time on something so simple.
So I thought, I’ll just take out the “C” (in black) and maybe change the “I” (in rhino) into a “Y” … there. No big deal. It’s catchy, my family likes it, the domain is available.
All there’s left to do, is sign up with a web hosting, and that’s it. Right?
Not exactly, after paying for a .com I went to structure my entity. Basically, I needed an LLC. Then, that’s when I realize that there was a company that, according to the Great state of Georgia had a similar name.
First of all, that company’s name wasn’t even close.
Second, according to the secretary of state, the company went out of business in 2015.
After more research I read that if I added a word or two, I could keep the core name of the business. Which at this point, I’m invested into. So, I added on Health & Wellness, which was approved by the state.
And I could keep my domain, (https://blakrhyno.com) if I establish a DBA (Doing Business As) in that business’s county.
Funny story, after all of this, the name is still similar to a jamaican dance hall rapper. 🤦🏿♂️
